Wildlife: Greenhouse Frog

Greenhouse Frog - Eleutherodactylus planirostris planirostris; (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac)

Size: 1 to 1 ½ inches SVL* – This frog has small toe pads. The body is mottled brown with a pale belly. It has a rounded snout and a speckled golden iris with a patch of bronze colouring from the eyes to the nose. There are faint lines from the top of the head and along the body. Vocalization is faint cheeps of 1 to 4 notes. It lives in damp areas, under rocks, wood or leaf debris and inside bromeliads. The tadpole develops entirely inside the eggs, so what emerges is a "froglet" that looks very much like a miniature adult. It feeds entirely on insects.
